Help, my gun is jammed

I've got the first gun in the game, but it got jammed. Whenever I use it, it refuses to fire. Is it permanently like this, or am I just unlucky over and over when I need it?

I am using an alchemist with 2 points into firearms.

Just use it repeatedly until the jam clears. Mine generally clears in 2-3 shots.

It seems if you wait a while it becomes unjammed.

I find that when it becomes jammed, if I keep using it it will stay jammed.
So I stop for a few seconds.

I'm not sure if waiting actually helps, or if it is just luck, but its not permanent.
