Deathfire: Ruins of Nethermore

Post by Gorny1 »

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/g3s ... nethermore

There is a Kickstarter going on, which seems to be about a game quite similar to Grimrock, but with turn-based combat.

I've played Realms of Arkania back in the days and its designer is behind this kickstart.

I am curious about what you guys think about it?

It looks fantastic! And what a pedigree, very impressive. The odd diagonal stepping in town seems a bit off, but that's the only issue I see at this point.

Yes, that's strange, but I think it's this way, because it is an early prototyp build.
I hope, that we'll get a smooth moving system on those maps, like the one in Realms of Arkania 3: Shadows over Riva. That would fit quite nice.

I backed this, too.

Here's a list of key features according to the kickstarter page:
  • Single player, first person Party-based play (four player-, plus two non-player characters)
Six races and eight classes to choose from
Over 34 unique character traits, plus base attributes
Party characters interact with each other
    Turn-based combat
    Indoor and outdoor environments
    Complex puzzles and evolving quests
Combine items to build weapons and traps
    Interactive game world
    Recipe-based crafting and enchanting
Involving, adaptive storyline with many key players and twists
    Factions for intriguing political set-ups
    Tons of monsters to battle
Dialogues—yes, you will be in awe at our cool and intelligent dialogue system
    Cheese toast
I'm especially interessted in the points about puzzles, quests and the dialog system.

I gave 20$. It seems that this is going to be "bigger" than LoG1 (which costs 15$). Characters talking with each other, NPCs that you can pick up (which makes them PCs :-) ), bigger world, outside areas and so on. The ruleset is also more complex (which doesn't make it necessarily better). So I thought 20 $ is a fair price for a digital download version. The "official" price will be much higher, I assume.
What price the world? What? That expensive? Then I'll take a small coke...

This looks great. I'm really glad this genre is having a kind of a renaissance after the success of Grimrock.

I think it will not gonna make it. At least not at kickstarter.
They lost momentum and when you do some math you will see that they will most likely not reach the funding goal.

Nevertheless I will be happy if I'm wrong. :-)

Funding often skyrockets like mad at the end of these kickstarters, so don't be in a hurry to count it out.

Just backed this up, hopefully they get the funding. If they get what they want, it's good times ahead (LoG2, M&M:Legacy & this).
