So any inspiration anyone can give me would be cool. I need a good scripting challenge

No worries, I was just busting yer chops.Komag wrote:Ah, sorry, you're right I didn't read it recently, I guess I just had an impression of 24 hours, perhaps because the first few were so fast!
Again, it's nothing personal at all! If the rules allow 72 hours, that's fine too then
I'm where you are...I thought I had a good idea, but the sheer creativity already exhibited is causing me to rethink things. At least you can script! lolBeNNyBiLL wrote:I still havn't thought of anything unique to feature in my room when my time comes.
Damn, you're quick!Billick wrote:I'm available to do my room tonight... assuming we don't lose power.
If you want to do something with custom spells.. you could create a similar effect by using a custom wand.. provide the wand at the start of your room and.. if necessary.. require them to place the item in an alcove and leave it behind to complete the room (to avoid giving the party an advantage in a later room).BeNNyBiLL wrote:I still havn't thought of anything unique to feature in my room when my time comes. I had thought about using custom spells but that presents two problems. What if someone before me had already defined the same spell (in terms of runes used to cast it) OR more importantly, what if the game is started without a mage. I assume were not forcing a default party script, as use of certain spells to progress would essentially break the dungeon for certain custom parties. Either way I'm probably not going to do this anyway.

Same here. Actually I have two rooms almost ready. Both are totally different and I'm not decided yet which to choseSkuggasveinn wrote:I started my room when this event started, creating assets and models.
Then when it was my turn its easy to throw it into the project, you have all scripts and so on done, simply throw it in, test it ingame and zip it out.
Hey, you shouldn't peek!SpiderFighter wrote:.I'm where you are...I thought I had a good idea, but the sheer creativity already exhibited is causing me to rethink things. At least you can script! lolBeNNyBiLL wrote:I still havn't thought of anything unique to feature in my room when my time comes.
I kinda have to, in order to make sure things are working as intended, and so that a room isn't impossible to beat if its author assumes things about previous rooms (say, weapons or party XP). One of the perks of leading this thing (Okay, the only perk!).Merethif wrote:Hey, you shouldn't peek!anyway I'm not gonna check on the already finished rooms when I get file. Mostly because I would end up like you - scrapping the rooms I've designed and starting anew, lol.
The cool thing is that there is no one else like you, so your room will be fine. We do have a lot of heavy hitting code warriors working on this, but we also have people who really don't script at all. Just do your thing until you're happy with it, and you'll make someone else happy, too. Some players love in-depth puzzles, some love just bashing the hell out of things.Lupe Fenrir wrote:Sounds like the idea I've got for my room is going to look very simplistic (and possibly stupid) compared to the other rooms in this project.
I've got to come up with something better now.
But that's a good thing, it would be sad if no one was better than me at this.
