I hate when damage indicator cover half HP bar. That is just stupid because in fast fights like this one in fighter challenge, you can't see when your character has low HP and need heal.
My suggestion is to move indicator on character portrait.
Some color coding on damages would be perfect. It works really well in other games, and does let you get a better sense of where you damage is coming from.
