Workings of Spellcraft?

Post by notger »

I had been wondering ...

I had the impression that raising spellcraft diminishes the costs of spells, but had not been able to replicate that for my high-lvl-air-mage, while for some low-lvl mage the cost of a firebolt was reduced 50% by upping spellcraft a bit. Do the relative lvl of the magic and spellcraft matter? Was I wrong and spellcraft does not reduce casting costs?

Or in the end, it boils down to the question: Is spellcraft worth it?

The end of Spellcrafting reduces cost, but that's 50 points in. Until then, spellcraft doesn't seem to reduce spell costs. Spell schools seem to reduce their respective magic as you progress (though I keep forgetting to test that).

e: Spellcraft does, however, provide the best source of both Energy and Willpower (and willpower translate into energy when you level).

Thx for you answer.

Then I was mistaken when I thought I had seen spellcraft reduce casting costs. What a pity. Energy is too scarce, arrows and fists are too abundant. ;)

What you most likely saw was increased Energy, which resulted in less of your bar being consumed for each cast. So in essence you're doing the same thing, in a roundabout way.

last time i checked, rising points in the school of magic (air, earth, fire...) increases the damage of their particular spells by a little.

Actually I had been checking casting costs before and after spending points in spellcraft.

Fire was around lvl4 and I raised spellcraft from around 2-3 to 6-7 (I guess) and firebolt(?) costs dropped from 20 to 10, taken from the numbers in the char sheet, not the blue bar in the icon. BUT you could be right ... I could have just missed that my energy had been risen by ten points.

We definitely need a Wiki, modding tools and the equations from the engine.

Level 6 does give you +10 energy. Not saying you're wrong, just clarifying.
