Yep, I never realized how much ambient light there really is until I started my Toorum run. No room for a torch or caster weapon, no problem, i can see in the dark, apparently.
A lot of that depends on how you set up your monitor on contrast and brightness (and the lighting in the room you're playing in, too). For a first time playthrough, no light source on your typical monitor setting is going to lead to missing a lot of details (e.g., items, buttons).
