Blood Moon

Post by Pompidom »

I'm presenting a new mod I started working on since my idea of the Town mod.
It will be an open world adventure in a world that's about to be overrun by vampires and demons.

Every dungeon has a different custom tileset. The filesize of the mod is huge

I plan to release a demo soon.

Since I feel I have completed 10% of the mod I'm releasing
Blood Moon v 0.01 for a short while
in case anyone wants to comment on how to do things better :)

It contains many custom assets preinstalled.
Including the "default Town map" I'm planning to create.
Feel free to use or copy stuff from it.

3 playable example dungeons and a town with shops.
Most of the shops are still empty, but some are working.
Lots of placeholders

I left some gear in a secret area at the start so you can enjoy slaying demons.

Playable from the Dungeon Editor in fullscreen using the F button or just export it into a .dat file

Software Failure
not enough memory

I'll try again next week with the 4GB Patch, when I have 8 GB.

Yes, use the 4 GB patch :)

The mod runs fine on a laptop with 4 GB ram though :)

So far it's just a demo teaser with the basic essentials i want the mod to be.

It will take several months before I release the real thing.

Hi There. Downloaded your mod to have a look. I have the 4ig patch but still it runs out of memory on startup. Some feedback looking at your mod assets folder. It is gigantic! 1.4 GB unpacked. You could really tone down alot of assets in there. For example the underdungeon tileset. Uses textures for a total of 380 mb. I have resized them and removed the ones I dont use in my mod. The textures are now 118 MB.
I think you can do that for more of your assets. ...

I just dont understand how other people get your mod loaded into the editor at all?
RMariano...how did you get it loaded into the editor. What are your specs?

I see that you use (almost?) all of minmays g1, do you really need everything from his pack in your mod? Thats another 507MB to your total size.

I would really recommend tunning down things. Picking out only the things you need. Make your own object, model, materials..scripts ... with the things you need. This takes alot of time, but is well worth it in the end.

Really curious what you made, but sadly I cant load it as it is now.

Dont give up, keep up the good work and creativity

Did you actually apply the patch with admin privs to grimrock2.exe? Because I'm 99% sure that's where you should search for the issue. Either it's not applied or the patch simply malfunctions on your system and doesn't actually allocate 4 GB for log2

The patch makes sure I don't have to trim down anything for now, because it works flawless and well within the 4 GB allocation limit, so I'm not going to waste time on it for now. The only thing you will achieve is a smaller download footprint, but nearly 0 performance improvement. So basically a lot of work for nothing.
You don't need massive amounts of ram to run it. It runs fine on a 4 GB ram laptop.

I know that apple devices only allocate 3 GB for log2 so I have no idea if apple computers will be supported.

For comparison and helping out:

1. I'm using the GoG version of LoG2

2. Blood moon runs fine on my gf's laptop from 2012 on low settings.

I3 dualcore at 2.4 GHz ivybridge tech
with Integrated Intel HD 4000
And 4 GB ram
Not even 4 GB ram since the HD 4000 uses a chunk of that memory as vram
Windows 8

3. Runs on highest settings rocksolid 60 fps on my 6 year old desktop in 1920x1080
Windows 7

I5 3570k
16 GB ram
AMD 7950 (r9 280)

The goal of this mod was to pump out an enjoyable mod as fast as possible using custom assets from other modders without any knowledge or scripting. So there is 0 chance of actually creating anything new or original.
