REQUEST: Gelatinous Cube

Hello Fellow modders,

I am in search of a gelatinous cube monster. Is there anyone who could make one for the community ? I myself am not proficcient enough to make such a thing, model, animations, scripting..

I know this is a long shot, but would anyone take up this project?

A few have asked this before (myself included), but the effort is probably too lengthy to justify at this time. My skillset with applying the scripting reference is moderate at best, and after a full day of trying to get the cube to work, the best I could do is have it standing in front of me "running." He was moving in place but the textures were not drawn on him properly, and trying to get him to move/attack was futile in my case. I assume he needs some sort of AI translation, and his asset definition needs to be redone to match the LoG2 component structure. Not fun

Shame I would really like a cube monster that swallows the party (like the rat swarm does) and hinders movent when the party is inside the cube. Could be very cool if one entire hallway is blocked with a see trough messy slimy cube

You could use the energy field as a placeholder for the cube graphics.
All you'd have to do is the scripting.

Slide it forward/backward/sideways like the Philosopher Stone? lol

Messy, but not much to be done until someone invests the time. Although your request has quite the scope creep... you not only want the original Cube monster, but also an entirely new feature that doesn't exist in either Grimrock game: swallow the entire party :shock:

yeah, and the hours of modeling, animation, drawing textures, getting appropriate sounds...but hey, why mention those? obviously the only notable part is the scripting that takes 5 freaking minutes...

if it's so easy to model, texture, and animate new monsters, why don't you do it yourself?

lol minmay, he said to use the Energy Field as a placeholder, and then simply do the scripting that you just said takes 5 minutes. The energy field already has modeling, animation, textures, and appropriate sounds. Silly willy.

I looked into this thread because I had been considering making one (months ago); but haven't tried. It was because EoB2 had them.
Perhaps it might be a cool addition the ORRR3.

Off hand, I would think that it could work to start with the green slime as a base monster, and script it to pick up any items it passes over; into its inventory. Once it behaves as planned, then replace the model, and animations with new ones for the gel cube.

The real catch with any idea is that animations are the hardest part followed by models.
And those can't be worked around.
