For some reason Grimrock 2 is crashing on my computer at startup.
"grimrock2.exe-Application Error
the exception unknown software exception (0xc0000417) occured in the application at location 0x0000000052C1AF3E.
click on OK to terminate the program."
Above is the error I get. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times.
Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Grimrock 2 Crashing
Are you using the Steam version?
Is there any information in grimrock.log?
It's in: documents\Almost Human\Legend of Grimrock 2\

Re: Grimrock 2 Crashing
An unknown software exception (0xc0000417) error usually happens with a corrupted application / registry / system file. Since you already reinstalled the game and the problem persists it is possible something else on your system got corrupted.
To make sure your system is ok i'd start with a full anti-virus and anti-malware scan before doing anything else. Then you can try this Microsoft FixIt tool made for dealing with this specific error code. Once you've completed this, rerun the Redistributables that came with the game and then retry starting the game.

I have ran registry cleaners, sfc scan and everthing else I can think of. The link given in the last post looks a little shady. I will try it if i can't figure anything else out but I hesitate to do so since it doesn't look like a legitimate "Microsoft FixIt Tool".
I can't figure it out

Re: Grimrock 2 Crashing
If you don't like the tool i linked to you can also go with this wiki info and repair tool.
Anyway, you have to face it: something on your system is corrupt and needs fixing.
Of course you can have Steam check the game files:
- right-click the game entry
- click properties
- goto "local files" tab
- click "check game files" (last button)
Steam makes sure your game files are ok. If any errors are found the damaged files are redownloaded. When they are fine and you get an error message like 0xC0000417 the problem resides on your system.

Re: Grimrock 2 Crashing
Solution found. In the even anyone else runs into this.
I am running windows 10. It just dawned on me today that maybe LoG2 is having issues with 10. I navigated to the executable located in the "steam\steamapps\common\legend of grimrock 2" folder and in its properties -> compatibility tab, i selected "windows 7". I also checked the box "run as administrator".
This worked for me. The game runs fine now.
Thanks for the help.
