Well you actually have the right idea, so I thought it might be bugged but I tested it and it works for me so
SpoilerShow
Imagine this is the layout: The idea is to put in the compass point you want to travel to, but its misdirection so you put the opposite

North
- - - - Door - - - -
l . . xxx . . l
l . . xoo . . l
Door . xxx . Entrance
l . . xoo . . l o=Untriggered plate
l . . xxx . . l X=triggered plate
- - - - - - - - - - - - -
that will open the forge door in this room, and should give you the idea for opening the other.

Thanks. The layout isn't clear but I will try later.

EDIT:
SpoilerShow
I did the West part but I have been unable to draw a N letter. I am too bad at drawing. I have got 3 ornate keys.

Actually the north door opens with a S, Its misdirection so you choose the opposite point, that said you only need two keys to continue, having all four just opens the iron door

Actually, I did try that. But I did two things wrong. I threw items instead of dropping them and I didn't use the square closest to the door.

Made a rookie mistake about the cutlass... fired at the wrong receptor.

Rounding out level nine I have some unexplained issues.

I have an extra gold key.
SpoilerShow
I have an arcane potion, a blank scroll, but I'm not sure how to use them. Is the map the note describing the process or will that come up later? How do I use the potion on the blank scroll?
Starting into level 8 I notice that a lot of pits drop you down into 'nothing'.

Things just keep getting better and better though.

The gold key can open doors in the section with the three locked cells with scroll and notes etc.

The note says that the prisoner tried to use the potion to write a map, but the potion formed some runes instead but he was unable to read it because of his existing map over the top. Hence combine a blank scroll with the Arcane potion (as I believe you have realized), so the question is how would you combine two items into a new item?
SpoilerShow
Arcane potion= agent, Blank Scroll= Reciever, Receptor=Magic
I'm working on an update right now to fix a couple of issues (such as the sack of hoarding) so I'll add those pits onto the list for this patch

Good to see you making progress and enjoying the dungeon.

Right, there were three cells, but I found four keys. Didn't know if there was another cell hidden somewhere with something totally awesome.

Ah four keys, well then I'll have to add something awesome for that fourth key to unlock :)
