[2nd partial release] Keys, Gems, Locks and Doors

Alcoves, Doors, Gems, Keys and Locks collection.

I have made some custom models with the idea to add choice and variations for the doors, keys, locks, and item-based puzzles with gems and dedicated alcove design.

The idea is to make special and easily recognizable models and design with the following ideas :
  • One key goes with one specific lock design that goes with one specific door design.
  • One gem goes with one specific lock design or one specific alcove design (carved in stone or metal) that goes with one specific door design.
Right now I have the following.
  • 14 key models each with a different shape and with specific textures.
  • 14 lock models designed to work in pair with the keys.
  • 7 faceted gems models with 18 textures color variation.
    Each of the gems models has two textures layers allowing them to be seen glowing in the dark.
  • 2 design for wall alcoves (or locks) for each of the gems model, making 14 base models.
  • Custom door design and textures.
I'm also planning to cut the pack in three smaller ressource pack.
That would allow for earlier release for some of the ressource as well as allowing an easier usage and modulability.
As a bonus that will allow smaller and more convenient downloads.
The packs would be created and organised as the following sections.

1. Alcoves and Gems. Done & Released.

There are a total of 126 different gems to choose from.

The gem types I have choosen and their name are : Almandine, Amethyst, Aquamarine, Beryl, Citrine, Diamond, Emerald, Peridot, Rhodolite, Ruby, Sapphire, Topaz, Tourmaline. Some have color variations others only have a single one. Precious gems like Ruby and Emerald have a single color, semi precious gems like Beryl and Aquamarine have at least two of them.

Here are some shots :

Each gem shape is associated with two design of alcove (or lock), one round and one square.
Each of the gem alcove models will be available in 9 different location over a wall.
This will allow the creation of panels of alcove for puzzles.
That make 126 alcoves (or locks) models to choose from.

2. Keys and Locks. Done & Released.

The 14 keys and their 14 associated locks.
All the keys have custom glitter effect made with some of the particles textures I have already released.
The 7 key models decorated with gem and their 7 associated lock models use the same material as the gems.
Since the models shares the same gems material and uvw mapping, there will be 119 more variations available for the key/lock sets for anyone willing to make them.

3. Doors. : Work In Progress.

Those are still WIP but I plan to make at least 14 of them, each should be available in 4 different orientation allowing each door design to be opened up, down, left or right.

Ok, I know it can be a bad thing to show off some unfinished work but here I go nonetheless...

I have made a bunch of custom models with the idea to add choice and variety for the keys, gems (as in usable with alcove and puzzles!), locks and doors.
The idea is to make special easily recognizable models and design with the following ideas :
  • One key goes with one specific lock design that goes with one specific door design.
  • One gem goes with one specific lock design or one specific alcove design (carved in stone or metal) that goes with one specific door design.
If possible I want to add as many locks and doors designs that I have different keys.

Right now I have the following.
  • 14 key models each with a different shape and with specific textures.
  • 7 faceted gems models with 7 textures color, that's 49 gems available at the moment.

Upcoming additions.

I am in the process of making the icons of the already available models.
I will have to add specular maps to the models also.

I want to add the following before releasing this asset pack :
  • Doors textures for the available model from the game. I want to add wooden, metal and stone doors.
  • Custom door models, more detailed, some as portcullis with the sparse flag available.
  • experimenting with alternate sliding direction with doors. If possible with the pit workaround I will try to add doors sliding in the floor and doors sliding in 3 and 4 directions.
  • Alcoves model usable with the gems or other models.
    These models should be placeable on walls and be alternatively usable as locks.
  • Various objects usable with alcove for puzzles : rock blocks in various size and shapes, crystal or gem globes, orbs, etc.
  • More textures for the gems models, orange at least maybe one or two more colors.

Ooo yes, very nice! So you are making matching locks for those keys? That's is a most welcome addition, adds much needed variety :)

Amazing!!! I did some custom key icons for ruby/emerald/amethyst keys for my dungeon, but without models... this pack is badly needed, I can't wait to update with yours.

But you always release your work at some point.

I was thinking about the Vapormods you see in all forums about game modding..
You see good ideas, good assets being shown here and there and then you wait for the release...
Two, three or six month passes and still no release. That happens more often that you'd think...

Anyway, expect some update on my progress this week-end.
I'd like to post new screenshots next sunday.

A little update to show my progress.

I have worked on more colors for the gems.
This could lead me to add a lot more gems, making nearly one hundred available !
I don't know if that would be really useful or not in the end because some colors are really close to the one already made.
Unfortunately I have no screenshot for this right now since I have only worked on the texture and tried them with GMT.
I haven't exported them properly in the editor yet.

I have also worked on the locks and it is quite hard to properly make the UVW map of some of them.
I'm never satisfied with the map of the object and I'm constantly changing and tweaking them.

Here are some shot of the current WIP models and textures with my opinion on what needs to be tweaked.

Any comments are welcome as usual. :)
