Advices for effective rogue

Post by SenSx » Tue Apr 17, 2012 2:57 pm

Hi guys,

I am at level 7 of the game, but i am thinking of restarting all over from the start because i think i failed my rogue character.

My rogue is 23 assassination / 10 Dodge

But back stab are hard to land, since the assassination perks don't raise dex my rogue often fails at hitting opponents, and when he succeeds to backstab the damages are still ridiulous compare to my warrior...plus face to face, it is as if he doesn't have any perks since they are only usefull in the back, and there is no point being faster with the 25% speed perks if he always misses.

So i don't know which rogue to make instead, but i still like the idea of backstabbing, but don't know if there is a way to make it effective...

Daggers / Dodge (first line)

Daggers /Assassination (2nd line) but i alwready had a missile weapon rogue in the back row so I don't know which is better...
Does missile weapon and assassination work toguether?

I also got an ice wizard, what is the best spell category? I heard there is an invisible spell in air magic usefull for backstabbing.

Thank you in advance.

If you have room to manouver the ice mage will help tremendously with backstab since you can freeze enemies with the frostbolt, then go behind them and backstab away ;)

My own rogue was missile weapons all the way (I wasted a few points in dodge and some other tree unfortunately so I couldnt get to 50 in missile weapons) and was dex based since I didn't know that that doesn't help you with bows. He still did the most damage in the party :D
When destiny calls, the chosen have no choice.

Some solid rogue builds:

Minotaur missile weapons expert. Get max strength at start. Ignore dexterity as it has no affect on ranged combat. Put all points to missile weapons. Take head hunter and skilled perks.

Assassination/daggers rogue. Put enough points in assassination to get reach attack and rest to daggers. If you use skill-tomes for this character he will be able to get max daggers. Obviously should be placed in the back row. Can carry a torch.

Unarmed combat expert. Put all points to unarmed combat and give him evasion gear. Does good damage and barely ever gets hit. You can use skill-tomes to get points for to learn backstab or some dodge skills. Can also be a warrior for higher health but cannot learn backstab or dodge skills. Recommended perks: skilled and fist fighter.

Ok thanks but i was also thinking of making a Dagger / Dodge rogue for front line

The assassination / Dagger seems good, but is it better than pure missile weapon rogue?

Dagger/dodge rogue could work but is probably not optimal. It has the same role as unarmed specialist but requires more skill points and I don't think it is more powerful.

I'm not going to lie to you. I think ranged rogue is a bit overpowered. In my best party I have 2 ranged minotaur rogues (one missile weapons and one throwing weapons expert) in the back row and they are super effective. But it is all about how you want to play.

Unarmed specs are better than dagger then?
A tankish rogue would be fun for me, thats why i was thinking of a dagger / dodge rogue, the dex will be maxed out so that he will escape everything, can't be worse than assassination / dodge ><

Other wuestion about missile weapon:

is it better to get the final spec that double the chances of scoring a critical?
or should i pick backstab instead in assassination once I got the double arrow spec in one shot (best perk I think)?

To be honest I haven't properly experimented with dagger rogues but I know unarmed is super good. It straight up gives you + 10 dexterity +7 strenght + 40 health + 20 evasion whereas daggers just gives you +4 dexterity and some energy.

Assassination is melee only so I don't think backstab works with missile weapons. Plus higher weapon skill also boosts your accuracy and damage so maxing weapon skill is imo way to go.

Unarmed spec gives way more stat bonus than daggers, but which spec makes u deal the more damage? I don't know in which spec you got the best combat perks (daggers spec still enables your attacks to go through armors, and of couse it enables you to use good daggers!)

You are right about the stat bonus, but you can't wear any weapon...
Whereas daggers enables you to use good daggers of course, it might balanced the stat advantages of the unarmed spec.

I'm pretty sure daggers do more damage but unarmed gives you defensive bonuses as well which is important for a front rower. You can get a damage boost with fist fighter perk and there are a pair of gauntlets that boost unarmed damage as well. All I can say from experience is that unarmed expert works very well but I cannot guarantee the results with dagger rogues. Also you actually have to find the better daggers before they are of any use. I think the best dagger is on level 7 so be sure to find it if you go for a dagger rogue route.

Unarmed is far stronger. If your final move procs, you'll hit upwards of 300 damage. Rushing for 50 unarmed is a good idea. (and dodge tank, you can even evade spells)

No need for positioning or anything of that sort to do great damage. The drawback is you're required to invest in Unarmed heavily, as you won't be getting weapon upgrades.
