So what is ultimate weapon in your opinion?

My opinions are:

1. There shouldn't be any ultimate weapon, because that would force players to chose one skill. If Dismantler were ultimate weapon, everyone would have to create fighter with swords skill. At the moment every skill has its "best" weapon (for example Icefall Hammer, Assassin's Dagger or Ancient Axe), but all of them are viable choice and you don't feel like cheated because you haven't took the path of the swords.

2. Contrary to other weapon categories, there are actually two swords viable for end-game equipment. Probably that's because swords skill is somewhat vanilla choice and swords are considered standard issue weapon for a fantasy fighter. Chances are many players would take swords skill for both first row fighters.

3. Also I don't think Sword of Nex was easier to acquire then Dismantler. Actually I think otherwise.

There were no hints about Sword of Nex - no not-so-subtle Toorum's notes mentioning it. Most players would probably just leave the room after they get key, forgetting about fourth switch. Especially that it is one of more difficult pits puzzle in the game
Only because Sword of Nex can be found two levels earlier doesn't mean Dismantler was made out to be ultimate sword.

Lurker Boots are found in first room and they are still end-game gear.
4. Magic always should deal more damage then sword - magic users are standard glass cannons. First row Fighters are there to tank and protect Mage. Dismatler, or any other melee weapon, is just a bonus. If you "ended up using magic to kill most of monsters" that means everything is just fine :-D

5. I don't understand the part about "hazzle". I was doing all this level with Dismantler Vault even though I don't have Fighter in my party and I actually left the sword in the same crypt I've found it. Was it worth all the hassle? Definitely! The only difference is I call it "fun", not "hassle".

I tried it, and decided to stick with the Sword of Nex. It's just a better weapon due to the accuracy bonus and better attack speed.

On my first run, my sword-girl was very accurate, so Dismantler was perfect in her hands.
on my second run, my sword-guy wasnt very accurate, so Nex was better than Dismantler for him.

It really depends on who brandishes it.

Using Toorum, LvL17 ranger.... the Dismantler is simply awesome. Its "hidden" talents are marvelous. 'Nuff said.

My human fighter who specialised in swords used the Dismantler, and it was good.
