Could be cool placed where land meets lava too?
Im guessing you may have defined the red crystals as their own separate objects for folk to place as they like
(hopefully that doesn't sound too presumptuous)

Thanks akroma, there is a cave area in Shadowgate that really sets a eerie mood and easy to get lost in, but the randomness on how the pillars were laid out and red crystals looked interesting to me, so I based it off of that. That wasn't an offer to re-implement jamming and backfiring, it was an offer to make the fixed range work with jams and backfires.
