Maybe it is enough to enable sound feedback in the function combinationReset(). The way it is now you can enter "111222121211121" and it will not be accepted even though the string contains the correct solution because it will reset after the 3rd 1. And the player could wonder why that is...

Kinda too scared to use the "rites of the moon" book, since I dunno what it does and if I need it for a later secret (as far as I can tell, it simply gives more HP for now?). Same with potentially attacking guards, since I don't wanna miss out on potential hints or different quests later....

But you need to do that on the forge, in the north room. (Adamantite Forge, in the factory level 1)
