IMO that's why it's a great idea for a sequel. I don't think there's enough room for development in the graphics and game engine to warrant a sequel, and the editor will cover the needs for more dungeons. Either I'm an idiot, or the short sword doesn't have any texture.

I used the long sword texture in materials, but the grip isn't darkened.

So I got gimp and a dds plugin to create a custom gfxAtlas. However my gfxAtlas(file name mod_items.dds) doesn't seem to work. The editor seems to load it fine, but no icons appear when I test my mod. Visual it's blank hands disappear when item is equipped. I suspect that my has to do with the forma...

As for the "red hurting someone's eyes", I think it is ok as it is now. I propose to stick as close to the original as possible. One will say that red is too red, then someone else will say that the straight corridor is too boring, let's add some loot there. Other will comment on monsters being too...

If I may make a suggestion, perhaps you should change the wall textures to a more realistic brownish red. The current red is kind of hard on the eyes.

Anyways I'm glad someone has taken up this project, I never got a chance to finish EOB when I played it.
