It took me a while (after running away from those sea creatures) but I found that I could kill the trident wielding monsters by: luring them to some stairs and exiting the water, then re-entering the water thus squishing them repeatedly. Spawned a spider boss, he was naked (no texture) I guess he didn't make the final cut. I am at work, so I do not remember the call for him, I think it was spawn("boss_spider"), or vice versa.
