Okay, another Friday, another update. Just like we promised! The spring has finally arrived here in Finland so we’ve had to jury rig all sorts of crazy makeshift sunlight blockers in front of a few pesky windows that shine their light directly into Juho’s and Olli’s displays again. And now that we got the first patch done, Petri has been mostly occupied by the work with level editor and it’s been progressing steadily. If you want to stay on the pulse of the development of the editor, there’s a thread on our forums which Petri will update as the work with it progresses. There’s also been reports of some strange never seen before creatures slithering in the darkness of a dungeon but the whole thing is still shrouded in mystery…

Hi there, time for the first patch! The patch mainly fixes some bugs and improves compatibility on some more exotic systems, but we managed to slip in a few new features too. Fans of quick save/load should be pleased now and we also threw in volume sliders which has been a pretty popular request. But most importantly you can now import your favorite portraits into the game. Have fun with them!

Wow! What a week. All of the keys on our keyboards have worn down to nubs from typing up a billion emails, forum posts, interviews and whatnot. But we’ve been doing something else too besides banging on our keyboards: we released a game! If you didn’t grab Legend of Grimrock during the pre-order, you can still get it with a 10% discount for a limited time. Regardless of all the release-related hassle, we have got some “actual” work done too. Possibly most importantly, we have started working on the first patch of the game (version 1.1.4) which mostly concentrates on some compatibility enhancements and fixing some bugs and exploits. I know it’s Thursday so it’s a little early for our usual weekly update but we have Easter holidays here on Friday and next Monday. And I can tell you that it feels good to have an extended weekend off after a long period of intense working!

As many of you have probably noticed, some reviews have started trickling in and so far we have been quite pleased with them overall. I’ll add a few interesting ones here to this post… That way we don’t even have to write nearly as much as we otherwise should because with the magic of Hypertext Markup Language (aka HTML) and linking and video embedding we can leech off of content provided by others! Isn’t the Internet neat? :)

Rock, Paper, Shotgun seemed to like the game very much. Although I’ll have to add that we do have a scroll where the resurrection of characters is explained very early in the game but I admit that it can be easy to dismiss the scroll or simply just forget about it. :) GameSpy gave us a pretty generous score and they seemed to appreciate its replayability too. And if you’re not familiar with the game or the genre (or if you know someone like this), the best sort of overview this far has quite possibly been the Elder Geek’s video review:
