Normally a sane corporate developer wouldn’t fix non-critical issues in a game just a couple of weeks from launch. But “sane” and “corporate” doesn’t really describe us that well so in our madness we decided to do one more build this week. The build improves the behavior of certain spells, fixes a non-fatal level scripting bug and we couldn’t resist balancing stats of two monsters while we were at it. Olli also fixed a minor animation issue with door pullchains that manifested only on 4:3 displays. None of the issues were critical and we could have waited for a post-launch patch but we really can’t keep our fingers off this thing, it seems!

Observant readers probably understand the dire consequences of these actions: Yes, I owe Antti a beer. Any recommendations btw.? I’m looking for something that I can buy here in Finland for an indie-affordable price. (Those who missed last week’s post are probably totally clueless what I’m talking about πŸ˜‰ )

That said, we are really happy to announce that we’re now officially in gold, that’s GOOOOOOOOOOLD BABY! *dancing around the office like a fool*

It’s been a long and challenging journey but we have finally reached this important milestone. But we don’t think it’s the end of the road, more like a fork in the road with ways branching into all sorts of interesting directions: iOS, Mac, map editor, sequel, new IP, living in a dumpster totally broke… πŸ˜‰

Now that the game is done, we can fully concentrate on launch preparations like the trailer, press releases, sending out review copies for the press, interviews and so on.

Everybody at the office is totally jazzed up and we really can’t keep in our pants much longer. You are probably as anxious to hear about the details and we can finally reveal them all next week!

Stay tuned!

No no really…keep it in the pants…please. And don’t tell us all the details at least. NO ALL REVEAL!

I’d rather hear about Grimrock. Just Grimrock, ok? Please?

Anyway, can’t wait to buy the game.

    • Evilskillit says:

Maybe that’s what they call whatever’s in their pants.

Btw back to our beer issue – I would like to send it to you as promissed, but only address I have found (on your web) is this: MatinkylΓ€, Espoo, Suomi. Any closer detail e.g. street and house number??? When chcecking maps, this appears: MATINKARTANONTIE 1,02230 ESPOO, ESPOO, UUSIMAA, ETELΓ„-SUOMI, SUOMI…but it seems bit long address to me :))) Hope you dont want your beer got too warm due to a looong delivery caused by unhappy postman who canΒ΄t find you! πŸ˜‰

Shut up and take my money!!!

This reminds me a lot of the kind of game I loved playing years ago. Ultima Underworld, Shining in the Darkness, the Wizardry series, heck, even Moraff’s Revenge! I’m looking forward to this one!

  18. David says:

Why do I have the feeling you will release your game along with the new Avernum and I will not be able to decide which to play?

Also.. You do know that you have now the incredible potential to write a random level generator? (hintnethackhint)

  19. Nick says:

I would love to see a patch that introduced a mode where levels and such are generated randomly, a la Dungeon Hack.

  20. kain91 says:

DANG IT! why must you release it in finals month? why!

  21. MB says:

Here’s a suitably rouhea beer for Antti:
You can find it in some well stocked restaurants.

  22. Paul says:

I am very glad to hear this. I can’t wait hear the details on pricing, release date and where I will be able to purchase it from (my vote goes to good old games). You have made my day a happy one.

  23. HarpoonIPA says:

Out standing news, can’t wait to play this bad boy.

On the Beer, I talked to my local liquor store owner who I’m friends with and asked if he could send you boys a case of HarpoonIPA. He told me, individuals and store owners in this state “Massachusetts” USA are not allowed to send liquor of any kind, past state boarders. Which totally sucks. Now if you can think of another way, let me know.

  24. andrzej raczynski says:

congratulations, looking forward to more good news soon.

  25. Sgtstumpy says:

  27. Hard Dominator says:

Congratz on getting gold. Bring it on i’m ready! As for the forking route i’m voting for a map editor.

  28. Rob Weber says:

Excellent news, fellows! Congratulations πŸ™‚ I look forward to playing…

My dilemma is such: As a Mac user, do I purchase the initial Windows release and attempt to play via CrossOver (or other Wine variant), or wait until the official Mac release? I don’t use Bootcamp, as that would require yet another expensive Windows license (I did this once already with Vista). Devs, can you shed some light on the Mac timeline or whether I’d encounter issues with CrossOver? I am eager to play, but might rather wait than experience frustration πŸ˜‰ Thanks!

    • petri says:

That’s a tough one. Due to limited resources there’s no release date for Mac yet and I won’t dare to give an estimate at this point. I’ve heard that people have successfully run the tech test on Wine. What kind of Mac do you have?

      • Rob Weber says:

Thanks for such a prompt reply! At the moment, I have a 2008 MacBookPro (yes, it’s showing its age now), but that may be changing soon if Apple releases some new models in the next 6 months. I am truly inclined to get a new Mac sooner to improve my play experience with Grimrock. Any advice?

        • petri says:

I have a MBA and a Mac Mini which are hardly gaming rigs due to their rather underpowered integrated graphics chips. I’m able to run Grimrock on the MBA but the fan is revving up high so I don’t really want to play on it. Haven’t tested LoG on a MacBookPro so I’m not sure… Hmm.

  29. Kvanttierkale says:

Congratulations! and good luck with the launch preparations.

I’m eagerly waiting for the release.

  30. Jehan says:

    CONGRATULATIONS !!! Can’t wait for next week ! …and PRE-ORDER !! ;))

  31. Evilskillit says:

Grimrock, possibly Dark Souls for the PC and Diablo 3 all in one month. What ever will I do? I haven’t felt like this in… a very long time.
