  1. If we imagine that putting together a spell from runes takes a bit of time, for example, if each rune must be spoken or drawn in the air, then having to “construct” a spell each time makes game sense. Besides, simply firing spell after spell until your magic is drained isn’t as much of a challenge. Part of the fun in DungeonMaster was learning the spells and trying to click on the runes while the other party members held back the monsters. I would like to see a separate popup of the runes when a spell is being prepared. That way, preparing the spell won’t interfere with fighting. And once the spell is prepared, the magic wand or staff can glow, indicating that it’s ready to be used.

And a keyboard grid corresponding to the rune grid makes sense. Now we need a third hand. One to move, one to fight, and one to enter runes. Maybe as an option you could allow a microphone to be used to say the names of the runes. That would make things that much more “realistic”.

One more thing that this does is limit the magic usage in battle. Sure you can have two magic users, but if the runes have to be spoken, you can only have one magic user preparing a spell at a time. So while you can go into battle with more than one spell ready to go, during battle you can only prepare one spell at a time.

  10. I just had to pop in to say that this is looking fabulous and brings back so many memories of games like Bloodwych, Eyes of Beholder and even Hired Guns. I got so excited that I had to write a quick preview as well:

I’d like to see the torch light remain yellowish even when it is equipped – makes for more atmospheric lighting. I was also wondering if there’s any chance of split-screen two-player option?

  11. after ISHAR trilogy i didnt play anything good , now its the time. i hope the price will be adequate

  12. This looks absolutely gorgeous! I cannot wait to put hands on it.

One small thought though. At the end when you cast the poison cloud (?) at the spider some of the damage numbers are green. In my personal CRPG vocabulary that (usually) means healing. Which confused me somewhat. It makes some strange sort of sense for poison to heal a spider, but the thing obviously died as opposed to regenerating as fast as you could damage it. So I assume the green in this case indicates poison damage?

I don’t suppose it matters in the end, I’ll adjust, it just threw me initially. :)

  16. I’m loving this game so far, guys!

Just one thing… are you guys going to have death animations, or are the monsters really just exploding like they are now? I personally would love to see death animations.

Either way, I’m loving this, so keep up the good work!

  21. I played “Eye of the Beholder” a lot. Thanks for bringing back the experience with a modern touch.
There were two things I didn’t like about “Eye of the Beholder”:
One: As with many games, the whole interface was Right-Handed oriented and I’m left handed. It annoyed me while holding the mouse in my left hand, you constantly had to move the mouse diagonally across the screen to reach the character tiles for selection. That, and the fact that mouse button switching was not yet invented caused a lot of unnecessary deaths and a swearing. Some DS games allow you to select Right-Hand/Left-Hand and then they switch the position of the menus/tiles on screen. No idea if this is a lot of work, but it would make the experience so much more enjoyable for the “lefties”.
Two: In the end “Eye of the Beholder” was a bit lacking in story department, mainly because there was one story and it did not had sub-story branches. Have you plans to avoid the “adventure linear puzzle problem”? Maybe that’s asking too much.
